The Meiji Shrine is probably the most important shrine in Tokyo. It is situated in a huge park, completely hidden by the dense forrest around it.

A wide path leads to the Shrine and visitors pass under the huge wooden torii along the way.

The Shrine itself is actually rather subdued in its architecture. The halls are big, but not very high. The structures fit nicely in the countryside-like atmosphere of the park with their wooden, earthy colors.

It is a very busy shrine, there are always worshippers and tourists around, and often you will see a traditional Japanese marriage there, crossing the courtyard in a slow procession.
