"Is it safe to travel in China?"

It's fairly safe...

China is still one of the safer travel destinations on this planet. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't be as cautious as anywhere else, of course. But if you use some common sense (don't carry all your money in your wallet, don't "show off" shiny gadgets, etc...) and come prepared (bring a money belt, use traveller cheques, etc...) you won't have any problems.

Theft happens...

Theft is the only real danger, especially in crowded places like trains, buses and stations. Padlock your backpack, never leave it alone, use only one or two bags and not half a dozen. Keep your money near the skin and in more than one place. So what should happen to you?
