The Public Health Service Hospital in the Presidio is one of a very rare kind of buildings in San Francisco – an abandoned one.

The city is so densely populated that a large, publicly owned building will find a new use very soon – but not so in this case. The hospital has been closed for twenty years and only now are there finally plans on the horizon to create senior housing units in the building. We will see how many more years it will take for this vision to become a reality.

Got a Quarter?

Posted in Navel Gazing at 7:36 pm by Thomas

I just found a quarter in my wallet that has been coined in my birth year. Sure, I hear you saying, that happens to all of us…

But did you notice that over the years everytime you find a coin as old as you, the coins look older and older?

This quarter looks horribly scratched up.

The Ghost Town

I’m way behind with posting here… time to work on the backlog!

In June we drove across Sonora Pass and visited Bodie, a old gold mining town in the eastern foothills of the Sierras. This town has been abandoned since the late 1930s and has survived seventy years of harsh weather and disrepair in amazing condition.

Here are a few impressions of Bodie:
