Monument Valley

Posted in Photography at 10:57 pm by Thomas

Here is another shot from our road trip last month… I can’t believe that this trip is now already a full month in the past. As the other shots in this series this one was also taken with the Kodak Medalist on Ilford Delta 100 film.

Looking back, I should have taken more pictures with this camera – all the ones I took came out great. But then again, it is a cumbersome camera to bring along and it takes quite some energy to shoot with an antique four-pound chunk of aluminium and glass.

Mesa Verde

As part of our road trip we spent one day in the Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. It was already late in October and we could as well have had rain and snow, but we were lucky and it was as nice an autumn day as one could wish for.

I took this picture at Spruce Tree House which can be accessed by foot without a guided tour and therefore with enough time to drag out the big camera.

Old Glass on Old Rocks

Posted in Photography at 9:03 am by Thomas

For the last two weeks we’ve been on a road trip to several of the national parks out in Arizona, Colorado and Utah. We brought four cameras and lots of film, among them my Kodak Medalist.

It was an interesting experience to shoot with such a heavy, fully manual camera out in these grand landscapes. I actually didn’t shoot too many rolls, maybe only about five pictures a day with this camera, compared to the two hundred pictures a day we averaged with the Canon S2IS.

But now looking back, the few pictures I took with the Medalist with its gorgeous lens are all good. A few photos actually came out as big surprises. Here is one of them (click for a larger view):
