Ashes and Snow

Posted in Photography at 11:57 pm by Thomas

A friend pointed me to this site and even just the small scans in the gallery section have shown me that there is much more for me to learn in photography…

Ashes and Snow is the amazing and awe-inspiring work of Gregory Colbert. The pictures are like nothing I have seen before and I can’t even imagine how hard it must have been to compose some of these shots.

If you are anywhere near New York, you’ll just have to go and check out this exhibition. Me, I may have to shell out $130 for the catalog. :)

Medalist in the House

Posted in Photography at 10:11 pm by Thomas

I’ve finally managed to land a winning bid on a Kodak Medalist. I knew that this is a massive camera from all the descriptions on the web, but I was amazed when I first held this camera in my hands – at more than three pounds this is one heavy chunk of metal and glass…

But the camera does live up to its fame. Here is one of the very first pictures I took with the Medalist at the Cable Car Museum here in San Francisco. I have no light meter, so I had to guess the apperture and shutter settings. Taken on Kodak 100TMX.
